Why salt on yoga mat?

You may have heard that you can treat a yoga mat with salt - but why? Especially with new mats, there can be a thin protective layer on the surface that initially reduces grip. Salt can help remove this layer and improve the natural grip of your mat.

OurOmnana Glue™ yoga matis made of high-quality PVC and already has a specially developed, non-slip structure. If you still find it too slippery, you can activate the grip with a salt treatment. Here's how:

Why put salt on your yoga mat?

  • Removes production residues
PVC yoga mats often have a light protective coating. Salt helps to remove this and make the surface more grippy.
  • Activates the grip of the Glue™ yoga mat
TheGlue™ yoga matoffers naturally strong grip – but if you feel that it is too slippery at first, salt can speed up the process.
  • Natural Cleaning & Care
Salt has an antibacterial effect and can remove initial residues or light oils from production.

How to treat your Glue™ yoga mat with salt

  1. coarse grains of sea saltSprinkle evenly over the surface.
  2. Rub gently with your hands or a damp cloth– not too tight so as not to damage the mat.
  3. Leave on overnight or up to 24 hours.
  4. Brush off the salt thoroughly or rinse with waterImportant: Do not leave any salt residue behind as it can irritate the skin or cause long-term damage to the mat.
  5. Allow the mat to air dryand use it as usual.

How often should you salt?

  • Once or twice a year is enough– depending on how often you use the mat.
  • The salt cure is particularly usefulwith new matsor if you notice that your mat has become smoother over time.

⚠️ Important note: Use only when necessary!

TheGlue™ yoga matwas specially developed for strong slip resistance - in most cases a salt treatment is not necessary. If you find it slippery from the start, you should avoid this treatment. Excessive or too aggressive rubbing with salt can wear down the surface unnecessarily. If you are unsure, try the method carefully on a small area first.
